Statutory Licensing – What’s Changing?

The Welsh Government is planning to introduce a statutory licensing scheme for all visitor accommodation providers in Wales, likely in 2026 (but may be later)

This would require all tourism accommodation (including self-catering, B&Bs, guest houses, pods, yurts and other lets) to register and meet baseline requirements such as:

• Being insured
• Following fire safety legislation
• Having clear booking and cancellation terms
• Possibly minimum standards or inspections (still under consultation)
  
  

MWT Cymru, alongside the Wales Tourism Alliance (WTA), is actively representing members' views to ensure any new scheme is fair, proportionate and workable — especially for small and rural businesses.

• Implementation timelines
• Practical support to comply when/if the scheme is introduced
