The company, which has sales centres in Shrewsbury, Machynlleth and Stourport-on-Severn, has secured the Willerby Innovations franchise for Mid Wales, South Wales and the Midlands.

Treasurer and new trustee appointed by National Library of Wales

A new treasurer and trustee have been appointed to the National Library of Wales’ Board of Trustees.

Lee Yale-Helms will take over as treasurer from Colin John from August 1, while Eleri Twynog Davies has already begun her post as trustee. Both have been appointed for four years.

Rhodri Glyn Thomas, the library’s president, said both Mr Yale-Helms and Ms Davies would offer experience and valuable expertise to the board.

The future of tourism – have your say

In response to UK Government plans for an industrial strategy and calls for sectors to pitch for a deal, Visit Britain have launched a consultation to support an industry-led bid for a new sector deal for tourism.

This is seen as an opportunity for tourism to be recognised as an industry of the future, competing globally and backed by UK Government. The tourism deal will focus on key areas for the industry:

•           Improving productivity
•           Improving infrastructure and connectivity
•           How to make tourism the industry of choice for young people and develop the necessary skills base
•           How to ensure that we have the right product for changing customers and continue to compete globally in a digital world
•           Developing regulation that enables tourism growth.

MWT say ‘No’ to possible new tax

Suggestions of a new Welsh Government tourism levy have met with instant opposition here at MWT.

The Welsh Government Finance Secretary Mark Drakeford has appealed for people and organisations to come forward with ideas which could be developed into new Welsh taxes.

A possible tourism levy is one of the ideas put forward by the Bevan Foundation, a Valleys think tank but no further details have emerged about whether it will be paid by businesses or visitors.

However, the idea has attracted a blunt response from the tourism industry. Val Hawkins, chief executive of MWT Cymru, said: “The last thing we need at the moment is a tourism tax.”
