Powys County Council Launches Visitor Levy Survey

Powys County Council has launched an initial engagement exercise to gather views on whether it should consider introducing a Visitor Levy in Powys in the future.

A Visitor Levy is a charge on overnight stays in visitor accommodation. Welsh Government legislation allows individual local authorities in Wales to decide whether to introduce a levy in their area.

Powys County Council has stated that it is not proposing to introduce a Visitor Levy at this stage. This initial engagement is intended to gather a wide range of views from residents, tourism and hospitality businesses, other local businesses, visitors and communities before any further decisions are made.

The survey asks for views on:

• the principle of introducing a Visitor Levy in Powys
• the potential impact on businesses, communities and visitors
• how any income raised should be used if a levy were introduced in the future.

Feedback from the engagement will be shared with Cabinet and Council to help inform consideration of any future approach. Any decision on whether to introduce a Visitor Levy in Powys would be a matter for the next Administration, following the local government elections in May 2027.

The survey is open until Wednesday 30 September 2026 and should take around 10 minutes to complete.

It is available in both Welsh and English, with printed copies also available from Powys libraries.

Powys County Council is particularly keen to hear from those involved in tourism and hospitality, visitor accommodation, local businesses, events and community facilities, as well as residents and visitors.
